What are Social Security Survivor Benefits? What are Social Security Survivor Benefits?

Social security benefits are mostly known for those of partial or full retirement age, though there are several different types of benefits, such as survivor benefits. The official name of the program is Old-Age Survivors and Disability Insurance (OASDI) which helps your spouse or dependents receive a passed-on spouse’s social security benefits on top of their own.

Below you’ll find information that gives a more in-depth understanding of a widow’s social security benefit derived from their spouse and some advice on how to navigate the complex rules of the program.

Who Qualifies for Social Security Survivors Benefits?

To qualify for social security survivor benefits, you’ll have to meet the requirements for eligibility, which include:

  • You must be a widow or widower of any age who is caring for the deceased’s child or children under the age of 16, or who are disabled.
    • Step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and adopted children can be included under certain circumstances
  • A widow or widower who is 60 years older or more who has not remarried
  • Any unmarried children of the deceased who are younger than 18 years old or have a disability that surfaced before 22 years old.
  • Parents that are 62 years or older that were dependent on the deceased for at least half of their income and whose social security income would not be larger than of the deceased’s children.
  • A surviving divorced spouse may receive benefits if they meet other eligibility requirements

Another point of qualification is shared with social security retirement requirements, meaning you would have to have worked a certain number of years and gained the proper amount of credits each year for your loved ones to be eligible for the benefits.

How are Social Security Benefits Calculated for a Widow?

How the benefits are calculated for a widow can quickly become complex as there are several provisions for different circumstances. One such provision is the one-time death benefit payment of $225, which can be issued if the deceased spouse either lived with the widow(er) or was receiving social security benefits on their record. If there is no surviving spouse, the one-time payment can be given to a child who is eligible for the benefits. Another provision is if the death leaves a spouse with dependent children, which allows the benefits to be paid to them if the deceased had earned at least 6 credits within the three calendar years prior to their passing.

To gain the benefits, a specific amount of credits are needed to be eligible, depending on the age of the spouse who has passed. The younger they are, the fewer credits are needed, but the maximum required is 40. Also, just as with the Social Security Administration’s retirement SSI program, the amount of survivors benefits depends on the average lifetime earnings of the spouse who passed. The more that was earned, the higher the benefit till a maximum amount is reached.

How Big Can the Benefits Be?

The benefits survivors receive can depend on their age and the type of relationship they had with the deceased:

Widow(er) Benefits

If at the full retirement age, the surviving spouse can receive the total amount of the deceased’s benefits. If they are between the ages of 60 and full retirement age, they can receive between 71% to 99% of the amount. A disabled spouse between 50 and 59 years of age can receive up to 71%, and a spouse caring for a child under the age of 16 at any age can receive up to 75%. A divorced spouse, if they qualify as previously mentioned, can receive the same amounts listed above.

Children and Parent Benefits

Children under the age of 18, or 19 if still in school or disabled, can receive 75% of the deceased parent’s benefit. A parent that is dependent on the deceased is eligible to receive 82% of the benefits, but if both parents are alive and were dependents, then they each can collect 75%.

As you can see, it can become quite complicated to ensure you receive your social security from your loved one. Can You Collect Social Security and Disability? Can You Collect Social Security and Disability?

With retirement approaching,it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with what can cost you your social security benefits or what you can collect on top of them. Also,if you’re receiving social security disability, will your retirement affect those payments? These are important topics to cover, just as knowing what SSI and SSDI are, when to file for each,or switching from one to the other.

Collecting Social Security and Disability

Many people confuse their social security retirement with supplemental security income, but they are entirely different programs and that matters a great deal if you’re hoping to collect social security disability. The issue here is eligibility and what those payments look like, while it’s tempting to think that applying for various forms of social security will make for higher payments,it isn’t how it works. Essentially, the social security office will only pay you whatever is higher if you’ve filed for both. In most cases, the SSI disability is higher until you reach the age for full retirement which will then automatically convert to your retirement benefits.

There is a rare exception to the automatic conversion rule and that is when someone opts for early retirement but is then approved for SSDI benefits. This way you can receive early retirement payments until the disability insurance is approved and the additional money comes in on top of the early-retirement benefits, likely along with the retroactive benefits.

Can You Switch from SSI to SSDI?

Yes,you’re able to switch from SSI to SSDI. If you file for early retirement and then suffer from a disability, you can apply for SSDI benefits. If approved, they will switch your early retirement benefits to SSI disability benefits. This is also true in reverse. This is one of the instances where you would want to speak with an SSI or SSDI lawyer before making any filings or claims,to ensure you’re not robbing yourself of a higher payment or missing an opportunity to benefit from what is rightfully yours. It isn’t uncommon for people to file for SSDI,only to find their social security retirement was much higher, and are now unable to collect.

Filing for Disability and Social Security at the Same Time

This is another common “trick” people employ to try and receive both social security disability and social security retirement insurance, but it can have costly ramifications. People who retire early and apply for disability at the same time run the risk of their SSDI being denied, then being forced to collect lower benefits for the rest of their life. While this is an option for people who are quite impaired and it’s all but guaranteed they’ll get their SSDI benefits, you have to ask yourself if it’s worth the risk.

This is another area where it pays to have a lawyer well versed in social security disability benefits and the social security administration.

A Guide to Social Security Disability and Social Security Benefits

If you’re considering filing for both social security benefits and SSDI,it’s important you have the right guide to ensure you get what is rightfully yours. Being denied social security disability and getting lower SSI benefits is a scary and stressful time, especially if counting on that extra income makes you think you cannot afford an attorney.

Getting what you need to live and have what you deserve is too important to leave to chance. Partner with an experienced ally that is by your side from start to finish to better secure your benefits.

How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost? How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost?

Crowns are a common dental treatment, but the cost of crowns can vary Once it is determined you need a crown, Dr. Frahm explains your  options. Ultimately, the cost of your crown depends on the materials it’s made of.

What are dental crowns made of?

Permanent dental crowns are made from either porcelain, ceramic, base metals, composite resin, and even zirconia. Let’s break down each type and what you can expect for the cost:

Porcelain: is a non-toxic dental material that works with the body’s natural systems. Porcelain naturally adheres to your DNA, making it five times stronger than your natural teeth. Porcelain can also be perfectly matched to the exact color of your teeth. As for cost, according to Authority Dental, porcelain crowns can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500.

Ceramic is a beautiful option for crowns. Their color and sheen match your tooth’s natural aesthetic. Ceramic crowns are long-lasting, making them a great option. Ceramic crowns typically cost about the same as porcelain at $1000-$2,500 per crown.

Metals like gold, platinum or nickel are commonly used for crowns on back molars. These metals are incredibly strong and long-lasting. The downside of metal crowns are they do not match your tooth color and can cause allergic reactions in some people. Depending on the type of metal, each of these crowns can cost between $800-$2,500.

Zirconia is the newest material being used for dental crowns. It’s a type of ceramic that offers superior strength and durability to withstand many years of wear. However, it can be difficult to match zirconia exactly to your tooth color. The cost of zirconia crowns can cost upwards of $1,000-$2,000 each.

Composite resin crowns are a popular option since they cost less than other materials. However, resin crowns are more likely to crack and wear down. This means they will need to be replaced more frequently. Resin composite crowns average about $300.

Please note: Depending on your location, the expertise of your dentist and lab fees, the cost for crowns and other dental treatments may differ.

Paying for dental crowns

The prices listed above are out-of-pocket costs. Dental benefits typically cover a portion of crown costs.  One caveat to keep in mind: some insurance policies have waiting periods of one to two years before they’ll cover a crown. So, it’s always a good idea to review your dental benefits policy before treatment.

All About Erikson StagesAll About Erikson Stages

First published in 1950,Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development outlined eight stages that Erik Erikson's Stages of Psychosocial Development Explained the healthy person goes through. Each stage is defined by a crisis that creates or damages a person’s personality. The theory is based off Freud’s psychosexual stages, and also includes social influences. It has been criticized due to its generalisations but it has remained an integral part of psychology. It has also proved useful in changing the way we think of middle and late adulthood as a time of personal development rather than the time to live through.

The very first stage, infanthood lasts from birth up to about 18 months. At this point infants are totally dependent on their caregivers. The baby learns to trust their caregivers through being able to observe how they respond to their needs, such as comforting and feeding. The treatment they receive at this stage will have lasting effects for their security and confidence in themselves.

The stage of toddlerhood is Erikson’s third phase of psychosocial development. It is a period of time that spans from 18 months to 2 years. The child develops their independence during this stage, and the success or otherwise of this process can have a significant impact on the development of their personality and growth. A child who is unable overcome their shame and doubt will be struggling with these issues throughout their lives. If the child can get through this stage successfully then they may be able to develop intimate relationships in later years.

Preschool is the third phase of Erikson’s theories and occurs between the ages of three and five years. Children in this age group are developing their capacity to relate to other people as well as having an innate sense of self-confidence. Parents and teachers must encourage positive interactions with children at this stage. The positive interactions help to increase the independence of the child while providing guidance and support to their efforts. Negative interactions, such as negative criticism or indifference could harm the self-esteem of a child.

Elementary school is the fourth level of Erikson’s concept and can be found between 6 and 12 years of age. It is during this time that a child begins to feel pressure from other people such as teachers and peers. This is also the stage when a child begins to develop their sense of industry or the ability to work hard towards objectives and goals. Children who are applauded for their efforts and encouraged by their teachers will be able to create a sense of accomplishment and avoid the need to look at others as a comparison.

At the age of middle-age most people begin to contemplate their mortality. There are people who feel regret over things they’ve performed or did not do. A person who can overcome the challenges of this stage will most likely enjoy a rewarding and prosperous retirement. However,if they don’t overcome these challenges in time, they may face a mid-life crisis that can cause serious mental health problems.

How Long Does Meth Stay In Your System? How Long Does Meth Stay In Your System?

Factors Affecting Methamphetamine Detection Time

Various factors can influence the detection time of methamphetamine in an individual’s system. One such factor is the frequency and amount of drug usage; a person who consumes larger quantities or uses meth more frequently will have a longer detection time than someone with occasional or lower dose usage. Additionally, individual metabolism rates significantly affect how quickly the body processes and eliminates substances like methamphetamine. Factors such as age, weight, overall health, and genetic makeup can all contribute to variations in metabolism rates.

Another aspect that affects methamphetamine detection times is the type of test being conducted. Different testing methods possess varying levels of sensitivity and specificity for detecting drugs within specific windows of time after consumption. For instance, urine tests are commonly used due to their affordability and ease of administration. Still, they may only detect meth use within 3-5 days post-ingestion,depending on individual factors previously mentioned. On the other hand, hair tests offer a much broader window for detecting substance use – up to 90 days following ingestion – but may be less reliable for determining recent usage.

It is essential to consider these factors when interpreting results from drug screenings or assessing an individual’s likelihood of testing positive for methamphetamine use. Understanding how various elements impact detection times can help provide context around potential false positives or negatives during testing procedures while also highlighting the importance of considering multiple sources when evaluating suspected drug abuse cases.

Testing Methods for Identifying Meth in the Body

Several testing methods are available for identifying the presence of methamphetamine in an individual’s body. The most common methods include urine, blood, hair, and saliva tests. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages regarding accuracy, detection window, and invasiveness.

Urine testing is often considered the gold standard in drug testing due to its relatively low cost, ease of administration, and ability to detect recent drug use. Methamphetamine can typically be detected in urine within 2-5 hours after ingestion and may remain detectable for up to 3-7 days, depending on factors such as dosage, frequency of use, metabolism rate, and hydration levels. Blood tests offer a shorter detection window than urine tests but provide more accurate results regarding current intoxication levels. However, they are more invasive than other methods since they require blood from the tested person.

Hair testing offers a much longer detection window than other methods; methamphetamine can be detected in hair follicles for up to three months after last use. This makes it particularly useful for determining long-term drug abuse patterns or ensuring compliance with treatment programs over time. Saliva testing is less invasive than blood or urine sampling but has a shorter detection period – usually only detecting methamphetamine within 24-48 hours after consumption. Regardless of which method is chosen by professionals conducting drug screenings or investigations into substance abuse issues involving methamphetamines, understanding these various techniques will help ensure accurate results while minimizing discomfort experienced by those undergoing such procedures.

Impact of Meth Use on Physical and Mental Health

Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth,is a highly addictive stimulant drug severely affects an individual’s physical and mental health. Prolonged use of meth can lead to significant changes in the brain’s structure and function, resulting in cognitive impairments such as memory loss, difficulty concentrating, and poor decision-making skills. Additionally, chronic meth users may experience extreme mood swings, anxiety disorders, paranoia,or hallucinations due to alterations in neurotransmitter levels.

Physically, meth abuse takes a heavy toll on the body by causing damage to vital organs like the heart and liver. Long-term use can lead to increased heart rate and blood pressure, which strains the cardiovascular system; this may result in heart attacks or strokes. Furthermore, weight loss from suppressed appetite is common among meth users, leading to malnutrition-related issues, including weakened immune systems and susceptibility to infections. Skin sores caused by excessive scratching due to feelings of bugs crawling under their skin are also prevalent among those who regularly consume this drug.

Beyond these immediate health concerns associated with chronic meth use lies a range of long-lasting effects that persist even after cessation of drug consumption. For instance, studies have shown that former addicts often exhibit reduced gray matter volume in certain areas of their brains compared with non-users – suggesting irreversible neurological damage inflicted by prolonged exposure to this toxic substance. Moreover, recovering individuals might face challenges when trying to reintegrate into society due to their compromised cognitive abilities and the potential stigma surrounding addiction history – further exacerbating any existing mental health struggles they may face during the recovery process.
